Probe into the Death of former AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa
The Justice Arumughaswamy Commission was set up to probe into the death of beloved former AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa. According to the latest news, Sasikala’s lawyers have filed a complaint against one of the administrative officers of the commission.
The legal team of former general secretary, Sasikala have claimed that B Komala, previously a member of the commission has been tampering with the evidence. The death of beloved former AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa had drawn a lot of media attention not just because of her stature but also because of the claims of foul play leading to her death.
Most of these claims were in some way connected to Sasikala who was also in the centre of the power struggle that had ensued even before Jayalalitha’s body was cold.
The Justice Arumughaswamy Commission was then set up to look into the matter and find answers to the questions that people had in respect to the death of beloved former AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa.
The commission however, was unable to remain out of controversies itself. In a statement to India Today, Senthoor Pandian, Sasikala’s counsel said, “Even though Komala holds an administrative position, she plays a critical role in decision making and her decision may be biased due to her husband’s political affiliation.”
Swift action was taken as soon as the complaint was filed and Komala was replaced with a court officer Palanisaamy who will take interim charge of documents, exhibits and other evidence.
While the filing o complaint and replacement were taking place, a separate development was taking place. A specialist doctor who had treated Jayalalithaa has told the commission that flying the former AIADMK chief abroad for treatment was an option that was discussed with various officials. He was, however, told that she would not agree to leave the country.
This information came to light when the doctor was responding to charges made the Deputy CM O Pannerselvam who made allegations that the Apollo Hospitals had rejected his request to take Jayalalithaa abroad.
The questions surrounding the death of beloved former AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa are far from answered. It with great hope that her followers look towards the commission for these answers but the controversies surrounding the commission is for sure hampering the effectiveness of the probe.
